SKOPJE WHISKEY

FESTIVAL

Whiskey tasting festivals are common in world metropolises, and in 2019 Skopje became part of this map. Skopje Whiskey Fest is not only a whiskey festival, but also a holiday for hedonists, which improves the mood of the audience and positions itself as a significant festival in the region. The goal of the festival is to raise the level of whiskey culture and support the whiskey segment in Macedonia, while enriching everyday life with whiskey education.

At the Skopje Whiskey Fest, visitors can taste various brands of whiskey from world distilleries, as well as American bourbons, Scotch, Irish and Japanese whiskey. The festival attracts whiskey lovers, urban people, the HoReCa sector and the business community. – Last year, the festival was visited by more than 1500 visitors. In addition to whiskey, complementary products such as chocolates, appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages are also exhibited.

Professionals from importers present whiskey brands and characteristics, while master classes are led by regional and international whiskey ambassadors. The festival promotes social principles, including whiskey patrols that provide recommendations for leaving vehicles. Opened bottles are auctioned, and the funds are donated to humanitarian causes. In the spirit of sustainability, glass packaging is recycled.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING SKOPJE WHISKEY FEST ‘24

Whiskey Festivals are held in almost all major metropolitan areas in our region and globally. This fall, the fourth edition of the Skopje Whiskey Fest will be held in Skopje. Visitors can taste a large number of whiskeys and other alcoholic beverages from the range of all major distributors in our country - some are well-known to the audience, and some are rare and specific and will certainly arouse particular interest among whiskey connoisseurs and enthusiasts. Our duty as an organizer is to try to give you a few guidelines, tips and suggestions to maximize your enjoyment of this Skopje Whiskey Fest.

1. Glass for Whiskey Tasting.

With each purchased ticket you receive one branded glass tasting glass. The tasting volume is 30ml – enough to try a certain type of whiskey. After each tasting, ask the presenters to rinse your glass to avoid mixing flavors. Between tastings, try to drink a sufficient amount of water, which will be redistributed at certain points in the hall where the festival is held. Keep your tasting glass during the festival and feel free to take it home with you as a souvenir from Skopje Whiskey Fest.

2. Organize your time dedicated to whiskey!

With the diverse offerings and program that will be announced, you will want to make the most of your time. Get ready for a lot of education, conversation, and fun during these festival days.

3. Dress appropriately – “Dress to Impress”

By definition, any whiskey festival is a luxury in itself. It is advisable to approach this event with style. Please be appropriately dressed, at least `smart casual`. You do not have to wear a tuxedo, but to some extent the clothing should correspond to the event. To act otherwise would be a sign of disrespect to other visitors and exhibitors.

4. The ticket is for the event, not how much you can drink.

We understand that sometimes people say they will consume more than they can handle just because they paid for the ticket. Instead, consider that you are paying for the opportunity to taste all of these products in one comfortable setting and get up close and personal with trained professionals who will introduce you to the world of whiskey.

5. Stay hydrated - drink plenty of water!

We don't need to remind you of this. Although the tasting dose is 30 ml, it's still a lot of alcohol. Drink plenty of water between tastings or add a small amount of water to your whiskey to release the specific aromas of the drink itself.

6. Prepare yourself

The goal of the festival is not how much you can drink, but how much you can enjoy something new. The focus is on tasting, not drinking. Try as much as you can, then choose which brand suits you best and enjoy it.
As a rule, the organizers must ensure that visitors do not drink too much. If the authorities notice that you have drunk too much, you will be asked to leave the event. In such a case, your ticket money will not be refunded.
Another well-intentioned piece of advice: Do not consume alcohol, even in the smallest quantities, before visiting the event.

7. Check out what else will be happening.

Whiskey festivals have a variety of programs, from food stalls to live music. Drinking whiskey continuously for several hours is not a good idea. Instead, take a break and see what else is going on in the hall.

8. Research beforehand!

Since the number of exhibitors and brands can be overwhelming, we advise you to research the brands before visiting the event. The participants and brands will be highlighted on the special website for the festival. You will receive an information flyer or catalog with the entire offer of drinks before the event. You can also attend some of the organized masterclasses in special rooms in small groups of up to 25 participants.

9. Don't be THAT TYPE OF BOY/GIRL...

Don’t go over the line and ask to be served the most expensive/oldest whisky “you have”. This way you show no respect to the exhibitors, the brand and the other visitors. Price and age are not always decisive criteria for the quality of the whisky. So be patient and wait for your turn. Ask a few questions about the offer the exhibitor has. Take your tasting glass, sit back and enjoy.

10. Ask questions.

Most exhibitors have experienced staff working behind the booths. They are there to educate you. Ask about the history of the drink you are tasting, what makes that brand special.
Good advice: Sometimes, with your kindness and interest, you can earn a "secret dose" of tasting a specific whiskey from the exhibitors.

11. Spread the word.

In addition to the exhibitors, many of the visitors to this type of festival have an enviable knowledge of the field. The festival offers you the opportunity to meet new friends who will selflessly share their experience with you. Skopje Whiskey Fest is a place where knowledge is exchanged and new friendships are made.

12. Give all brands a chance.

You probably already know your favorite brand of whiskey. But be sure to give the lesser-known brands a chance as well, as they might surprise you with their quality and story.
